Jane Austen Time Traveler - Rachel Dacus

Rachel Dacus brilliantly weaves together pieces of England’s history and Jane Austen’s journey as a writer with modern day life in her latest novel Jane Austen Time Traveler. Following Jane as she adapts to her new life is entertaining and endearing. Our everyday conveniences – technology, electricity, cars – are all foreign to her and her innocence makes it easy to love her.

After receiving a rejection letter from the best publisher in London, Jane Austen loses all confidence in her writing ability. Believing her dream will never come true, the only future she has to look forward to is becoming the wife of Harris Bigg-Withers, who has little to offer besides his deep pockets.

When George St. James, one of the best at folding time, arrives with a guarantee of her literary success, Jane agrees to hear more about his proposition. She and George magically travel from 19th century England to 21st century America. George takes her to a Jane Austen Superfan Club, where she plays the role of Austen expert Janet Arlington. Among the audience is the club’s founder Will Fleming. He knows her true identity and uses his charm to engage with her in a debate about her characters.

Will invites her to tea, which leads to an invitation to dinner and then to an offer of being an overnight guest in his home. Jane agrees and it doesn’t take long for her to become comfortable in her new life. Perhaps a little too comfortable.

With the promise of success and a handsome man by her side, she struggles with the decision to continue living her new life or returning to her old one.

I’ve read and own all of Dacus’s books and I think this one is my favorite.
